Know exactly where you stand

UK tax residence is decided by the Statutory Residence Test: day counts, work patterns and ties such as home, family and available accommodation. Guess wrong and you can owe UK tax on worldwide income you thought was out of scope. We map your travel against the test, tell you exactly how many UK days you can afford, and put your residence position in writing.

Leaving well is a skill

The year you leave the UK is the one that goes wrong most often. Split-year treatment, the P85, final payroll, what happens to your ISA and your pension contributions: each has a right way and an expensive way. We plan the departure before it happens, so the year of the move does not follow you around.

Keep the UK business running from anywhere

Plenty of nomads keep a UK limited company while they travel. We keep it compliant end to end: accounts, Corporation Tax, VAT, payroll and dividend paperwork, with advice on the residence questions that follow a director around the world. Everything is cloud-based, so the office is wherever you are.

Two countries, one tax bill

Double taxation agreements decide which country taxes what, and foreign tax credits mop up the rest. We also advise on National Insurance while abroad, including voluntary contributions that protect your State Pension for a few pounds a week, a bargain most nomads never hear about.

How it works

  1. Talk to us. A free, no-obligation consultation, by video call or email, where we learn about your situation and you learn exactly what we would do differently.
  2. Get your fixed quote. One monthly fee, agreed in writing before any work starts. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices.
  3. We handle the switch. We contact your previous accountant, collect your records, sort HMRC authorisations and set up your cloud software. You barely lift a finger.
  4. Relax all year. Deadlines tracked, filings made, and proactive advice before each year end, not after it is too late.

Why Strategic Ridge

Residency rules trip up even seasoned travellers, and mistakes follow you home. We map your movements against the Statutory Residence Test properly, then manage everything online, so your accountant is the one thing that never needs an airport.

Frequently asked questions

I have left the UK. Do I still need to file a return?

Quite possibly. UK rental income, some UK workdays, capital gains on UK property and certain other income keep non-residents in Self Assessment. Leaving the country does not end the relationship with HMRC, it changes its shape.

What happens to my National Insurance?

Nothing automatically, and that is the problem: gaps in your record cost you State Pension later. Depending on where you work you may be able to pay voluntary Class 2 contributions at a very low rate. We check your record and tell you whether topping up makes sense.

I never stay anywhere more than 90 days. Am I tax resident nowhere?

It rarely works like that. Being non-resident everywhere is harder than the internet suggests, and banks, platforms and tax authorities increasingly demand a tax residence certificate from somewhere. We help you build a position that is defensible, not just optimistic.

Can you work with my accountant in another country?

Yes, and we prefer it. We prepare the UK side, they prepare theirs, and we make sure treaty relief is claimed consistently so the two returns fit together.
