UK Tax Deadlines 2026/27

Every UK tax deadline that matters for 2026/27, in one place. Bookmark it, or better: become a client and never track a deadline again, because we do it for you.

Self Assessment

  • 5 October 2026: register for Self Assessment if you became self-employed or started receiving untaxed income in 2025/26
  • 31 October 2026: paper tax returns for 2025/26
  • 31 July 2026: second payment on account for 2025/26
  • 31 January 2027: online returns for 2025/26, the balancing payment, and the first payment on account for 2026/27
  • 31 July 2027: second payment on account for 2026/27

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax

If your gross self-employment and property income passed £50,000, you are in MTD from April 2026 and file quarterly:

  • 7 August 2026: quarter to 5 July
  • 7 November 2026: quarter to 5 October
  • 7 February 2027: quarter to 5 January
  • 7 May 2027: quarter to 5 April
  • 31 January 2028: final declaration for 2026/27

Limited companies

  • Annual accounts: filed at Companies House 9 months after your year end (a 31 December year end means 30 September)
  • Corporation Tax payment: 9 months and 1 day after your year end
  • Company tax return (CT600): 12 months after your year end
  • Confirmation statement: due annually, within 14 days of your review date, and it now requires the verified personal code of every director and PSC
  • 18 November 2026: final deadline for identity verification of all existing directors and PSCs

VAT

  • Returns and payment: 1 month and 7 days after the end of each VAT quarter, filed under Making Tax Digital

Employers and payroll

  • Every payday: RTI submission to HMRC on or before payment
  • 19th of each month: CIS returns for contractors
  • 31 May 2027: P60s to all employees
  • 6 July 2027: P11D benefits in kind returns
  • 22 July 2027: Class 1A National Insurance payment (electronic)

Selling UK residential property

  • 60 days from completion: report and pay Capital Gains Tax on the disposal. Penalties start automatically at day 61.
